Director, Enclosure Design at SHoP Architects
Sameer Kumar is a registered architect and the Director of Enclosure Design at SHoP where he provides guidance in design, development, and execution of the building enclosure for every project at the firm. He has led facade direction on many of SHoP’s most high-profile projects including Uber Headquarters, 111 West 57th Street and South Street Seaport. Sameer’s experience designing building enclosures is founded upon a diverse and extensive career working with firms like FTL, Heingtes and KPF, where he has successfully participated in numerous prominent projects across the world.
Sameer’s personal focus and interests are rooted in the material practice of architecture and how the experience of architecture can be defined through a critical engagement with the craft of building. Sameer is interested in an environmentally sustainable, humanistic approach to building technology and believes in the need to pursue this approach as a collective and collaborative effort across the AEC industry.
Sameer lectures frequently about his dedication to an improved built environment. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the graduate architecture programs at Princeton University and University of Pennsylvania where he teaches courses on materials, structures and the craft of architecture. Sameer holds degrees in architecture from University of Pennsylvania and Center for Environmental Planning and Technology, India.
