Brienna Rust, PE works for the building technology division of Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger Inc. in their New York City office. She has been working in the building envelope consulting arena for five years and has experience with the design and investigation of a wide range of envelope systems. Through some recent project work, Brienna has developed a “soft spot” for curtain wall systems, and enjoys the unique challenges associated with custom, ground-up facade design. She has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in civil engineering and focused her academic years on community development and sustainability, including spending 27 months in Tanzania as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching secondary school and observing local construction practices. She believes that all components of the built environment, as well as their designers, are intertwined, and is excited to be part of a group focused on integrating the industry’s approach to constructing it.
