Submission Guidelines for SKINS

In particular, we are interested in receiving two types of original content for consideration.

1. Profiles: articulate and insightful original materials of current topical interest to our subscriber base of building professionals, owners/developers, industrialists, contractors, facilities engineers, preservationists, academics and others.
2. Media Reviews: articulate and considered reviews of new (and, in some cases, existing) print and digital media publications including: books, journals, conference proceedings, academic papers, white papers, magazines, articles, reports, blog sites and posts, videos, podcasts. Also of interest are tools and resources including websites and software programs, lectures, conferences and events.

Themed topics: Articles may fit in one of the following categories, although we are interested in new categories also. Indicate the theme under which your submission applies.

Profiles topics are intended as brief journalistic news reports, and as such, can cover project, firm, fabricator, and academic work, among similar topics.

Profiles articles should include some element of facade focus, but the facade is relevant to just about everything in architecture and urban habitat; topical content is broad.

Controversial topics are welcome, explicit political dialogue is not.

All material, system, and process types are welcome.

Include a 25-45-word synopsis of the content.

Include a title under 15 words.

Body word-count approx. 300-800 words. Longer articles will be considered, and may be run in serial.

Include the name, address, phone number, affiliations, and email for all authors.

Please proof material before submitting.

Cite references as appropriate using Chicago style formatting.

Submit only original materials that you own or have written permission to use.

Content should be directly or indirectly building facade related, and must be of topical interest and provide value to our subscriber base of building professionals, owners/developers, industrialists, contractors, facilities engineers, preservationists, academics and others.

Themed topics: Subject matter may fit in one of the following categories, although we are interested in new categories also. Indicate the theme under which your submission applies (or propose a new one).

Media Reviews are intended as brief, concise and insightful critical assessments of the work addressed, but not necessarily as rigorous, lengthy, comprehensive and in-depth academic works, although these too will be considered.

Subjects should include some element of facade focus, but the facade is relevant to just about everything in architecture and urban habitat; topical subject matter is broad, ranging from book reviews on theory or practices to new software modeling platforms. Subject matter is broad-based and inclusive.

Include title/name, author(s), availability, references, how to access, links, and similar information.

Provide a critical description and evaluation of the subject of approx. 200-800 words, addressing both strengths and weaknesses of the work, your personal recommendation, and your opinion of who will find this material of interest (architect, engineer, student, building energy modeler, etc.).

Include your name, address, phone number, affiliations.

Please proof material before submitting.

• Absolutely no whiff of promotional content.
• Primary content categories: theory, history, practice and research related to the building skin and its relationship to buildings and urban habitat.
• Images strongly encouraged, approx. 1/150 words, resolution minimum 6-inch short side, 100 dpi, formatted for web (.jpg or .png files)
• Submit as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx files)
• Please proof material before submitting.
• Cite references as appropriate using Chicago style formatting.
